Part Two: Getting to know you

Please answer the questions below:

  1. In your own words, define the Keystone Brand.

  2. What do you see yourself implementing within the first 30 days on the job? Within the first year?

  3. Describe your happy place.

1.

The Keystone Brand

If I had to put Keystone resort's brand into one phrase, it would be "Family Friendly Fun". Great attention is paid toward creating kid-centric events which will engage children and attract families. Small but clever touches such as the little red wagons assure parents that every detail has been considered, and that they are in good hands. There is something for every age group at Keystone, and the immaculately clean, almost innocent image persists throughout all of the marketing material. To me, Keystone = safe, efficient, caring, thoughtful, inclusive and welcoming.

30 days

The first week, I would jump right into filming and editing a season opening video. I'd dedicate the first few weeks to syncing up with the team, and solidify how my skills could best be of service; connecting with Caitlin and Mallory to outline the top priorities, solicit advice, and set up a content calendar. In addition to collecting loads of footage myself, I would coordinate with videographers and bloggers to continue to take the brand to the next level. Next, I would hone in on the major Kidtopia events and seek out behind-the-scenes stories for future videos. I would also introduce myself to leads of other departments we work with, establishing a relationship and sharing ideas.

1 year

Within the first year, I would like to position myself as an indispensable member of the crew. I would like to produce a weekly or bi-weekly "day-in-the-life" 1-minute doc, focusing on different positions at the resort. A few video ideas: avalanche rescue crew, ski patrol training, chefs, A51 park architects etc.  A few other ideas for videos: POV- the creation of a Keystone cookie, Keystone "hacks" / insider tips, olympic style character bios of kids that are participating in the slush cup (with testimonials afterward), have kids explain the intricacies of the snow fort, profiles on Schlittentag participants with time lapses of them making their structures, documenting the transformation from winter mountain set-up to summer (behind the scenes videos are always a hit). I would also consider vlogging, or creating a first-person account of certain events (less polished / more personal videos resonate better with the younger crowd who don't like to be "sold", but want to be entertained). It feels more like you have a friend at the mountain, than an advertiser.

Overall, I want to put my creativity to good use. On a personal level, I would like to establish myself in Colorado, surrounded by nature and doing things I love to do. Ultimately, I would like to create the basis for a career with Vail Resorts. Through all of the different jobs I have held, this path seems to be the best blend of the qualities I am looking for in my career trajectory.

My Happy Place: Cape Cod, MA

Cape Cod extends its arm east into the Atlantic ocean, just south of Boston Massachusetts. With endless beaches, quaint homes and a laid-back atmosphere, it's no secret why this popular summer tourist destination continues to thrive. Every day is accompanied by the sound of seagulls, salty air and a cool breeze. The beach is never more than 15 minutes away, and homemade ice cream shops abound. To me, a visit to the Cape means incredible seafood, kayaking and paddle boarding, a drive-in movie, and a round of mini-golf. Cape Cod is my happy place; it is home, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
